Introduction to Clarendon Scholarship:

Clarendon Scholarship is one of the biggest schemes of University’s Scholarship. This is a dream come true opportunity for the genius students of the undergraduate courses to study in one of the world’s best Universities. Clarendon Scholarship at Oxford University Eligibility Criteria:

The selection of the scholar for Clarendon Scholarship is purely based on brilliant academic performance. Scholarships are well-founded in all subject areas and are open to candidates who apply for a new master’s or DPhil course by the January admissions deadline.
All candidates across the Globe are eligible to apply for graduate study at the University of Oxford.
All degree courses are eligible at graduate level. This comprises with all full-time and part-time master’s and DPhil courses.
PG Certificate or Diploma courses are not eligible for Clarendon scholarship.
There is no preference across the University for any particular subject area.

Selection Criteria:

Selection criteria depends on the course taught or research degree that the applicant apply for.

Generally, estimation of applications depends upon the following criteria:

(a) Academic record:

Applicant must have the brilliant academic record with high first class honors degree or its equivalent (a GPA score of at least 3.7 if the mark is out of 4, noting that most successful candidates achieve a score higher than 3.7) or must have outstanding academic record at master’s level (noting that an outstanding master’s degree can compensate for a moderate first degree performance).

Other indicators of high academic achievement may comprise with the following:

individual marks on student transcripts.
evidence of previous university prizes or awards.
information on your overall position within your cohort
and publications (if applicable).

(b) Aptitude for the proposed course of study:

This may be estimated with the review of your references, research proposal, demonstrated evidence of the aptitude for research, and the prospect you will contribute importantly to your field of study.

(c) Student motivation:

This is assessed through evidence of your commitment to your proposed course, evaluated by your personal statement and referees’ reports.

Other Criteria:

Candidates who wants to apply to start a new master’s or DPhil course at Oxford are eligible. This adds the students, currently studying for a master’s degree at Oxford but the candidates, re-applying for a DPhil would not be eligible for Clarendon Scholarship.
Applicants to start in 2018-19 with offers that are differed are not eligible to be considered for Clarendon scholarship.
Students who are currently studying and will continue to study for the same degree at Oxford in the coming year will not be eligible for Clarendon scholarship.

How to Apply:

There is no separate application form for Clarendon Scholarship. Candidates applying for graduate study will automatically be nominated for Clarendon Scholarship. Candidates needs to apply before the deadline of course to apply.

Scholarship value and duration:

As stated above the Clarendon Scholarships will cover full tuition and college fees and an ample grant for living cost, which is normally sufficient for the expenditure of a single student to live in Oxford. In 2018-19 this will be at least £14,553. Scholars also receive a study support grant on a part-time course to support in covering their non-fee costs.

Clarendon scholarships are offered for the full period for during which you are liable to pay tuition fees to the University, which is usually the same as the length of your course.

Fee Liability:

The length of fee liability is the length of time that the candidate have to pay tuition fees to the University. The standard length of the course is the period of fee liability.

Candidates have to pay their fees for the year no later than Week 1 in the term in which he/she commence study or seven days after the actual start date of the course.

Standard fee liability: The standard period of fee liability for programmes studied within the ESRC Doctoral Training Centre is the same as the standard fee liability for the particular award being studied for. For example, DPhil programmes within this Doctoral Training Centre are subject to the standard period of DPhil fee liability (see DPhil Fee Liability, above).

What is my standard period of college fee liability?

Scholars are not expected to pay a full college fee once you reach the end of the standard period of University tuition fee liability. however, Continuation charge has been levied by some colleges if scholar needs extra time to complete his/her studies at the end of the standard period of University tuition fee liability.

Both the expected completion time and standard period of fee liability are different for part-time courses.

What fees or charges are payable after I’ve reached the standard period of tuition fee liability?

In some colleges continuation charge is levied termly after the standard period of University tuition fee liability has been crossed.

Continuation charge will be applied by the University for graduate students starting research study in 2011/12 or later (this comprises any students progressing from a postgraduate taught degree to a research degree in 2011/12).
