Post-Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child

Brief Introduction of Post-Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship

It is seen in our society that the number of girls as compared with boys in some states is declining at fast rate which is very alarming. The girls are pressurized and tortured to give birth to male child. With these factors in mind it becomes even more important than ever the need to empower girl through education so that they can have a hand in shaping their own lives as they want it to be. The mindset that persists among Indian society about girls is not healthy for economic development of the country or any development at all for that matter. The Government of India has already declared education as the basic human right of every child. There are various schemes and various steps taken by central government as well as state government that are aimed implementing these schemes for providing financial support to girl child for her education. To achieve and promote education among girls, U.G.C. has laid out a scheme called Post-Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child with an object to pay for  direct costs of education of girls at all levels and especially for those girls who are the only girl child in their family.

The proposed objectives of the Post-Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship scheme are Providing financial assistance to single girl child to pursue her education in post graduation (only non professional courses) and To make people realize the value of having a small family.
